Older couple dancing and smiling'In the end, it's not the years in your life that count: it's the life in your years' - Abraham Lincoln

Research is central to the Charity's mission. Through our special trust, Research into Ageing, we fund some of the best biomedical research into health in later life, as well as social policy research.

We spend about £3 million every year on research that aims to improve the quality of life of older people.

The Disconnected Mind

Our flagship research programme uses as its basis the 1947 Scottish Mental Survey - the most comprehensive study of its kind ever undertaken - The Disconnected Mind aims to uncover the causes of mental deterioration in later life and find ways to prevent it. Find out more about this unique project
